The internet, once a space for connection and creativity, has become a source of fear for many. Every day, people face harassment, fraud, and cyberbullying that threaten their safety and silence their voices. Studies show that women experience more gender-based abuse online, and our independent research found that 43.9% of respondents have been bullied or threatened digitally.
At REVAMP Africa, we believe everyone — especially women and girls — deserves a safe and empowering online experience. Through our SHE-TECH Programme, we train women on digital safety and responsible online behaviour. During the programme's Online Safety session, participants shared real stories of cyberbullying, hacked accounts, and online scams. They were trained to recognise these threats and to protect themselves online.
We did not stop there. To extend their impact, we launched the SHE Leads the Way project.
"We encouraged participants to extend this knowledge beyond the session — becoming advocates for online safety, helping others stay informed, protected, and empowered in the digital space."
Each group identified and focused on a different demographic, tailoring their approach to reach and educate their chosen audience effectively.
Some educated market women using flyers and placards written in Yoruba and Pidgin. Others visited churches, mosques, and schools to teach online responsibility and cyberbullying prevention. Another group reached a digital audience through a video podcast, The Safety Net, which explores issues of online harassment and digital wellbeing.
This project transformed every participant from a learner into an advocate. Each woman now uses her voice to raise awareness on issues that matter to her — championing online safety and digital responsibility within her community.
Creating safer online spaces is a shared responsibility that requires ongoing advocacy and education. REVAMP Africa remains committed to supporting women to become changemakers both online and offline, believing that every woman who gains knowledge becomes a beacon of safety and empowerment for her community.
Join us in creating safer online spaces.
